Maniac Mansion, the comedy television series, was loosely based on the video game of the same name. When considering reasons the show only survived for three seasons, the place to start may be in this surprisingly tenuous connection. When the show was announced, fans of the game rejoiced. Once the show premiered, however, it was almost completely foreign to fans of the game.

Maniac Mansion was maybe the coolest game I played on my Commodore 64. I would spend hours exploring the mansion that was based on George Lucas’ own home! Imagine my surprise when I found out that there would be a Magic Mansion television show.
